EQUIPMENT
MAXIMUM LATEWOOD DENSITY (MXD)
The Walesch X-ray radiodensitometry device DENDROXRAY2 enables high-resolution, absolutely dated maximum latewood density measurements for palaeoclimatic analyses.
TOTAL RING WIDTH (TRW)
Four Lintab measuring devices and 20 additional binoculars allow absolute dating of tree samples and additional precise measurements of annual increments with data recorded in TSAP software.
QUANTITATIVE WOOD ANATOMY (QWA)
Our lab facilities include state of the art instruments for quantatitive wood anatomical analysis enabling highly detailed quantification of xylem structures beyond bulk densitiy measurements of classical MXD data. Sample thin sections are treated with paraffin and ethanol to allow optimal staining and subsequent analysis of the scanned thin sections using ROXAS software.
FIELD EQUIPMENT
We use both 5 mm and 10 mm Haglöf Mora increment borers with differing lengths (400-1000 mm) in conjunction with Makita and Metabo power drills to extract the samples.
